Check your guarantee first

A machine under about two years old is probably still covered by the manufacturer, and some brands cover the motor for ten years or more. If yours is covered, contact the manufacturer first. The repair may be free, and an independent repair can invalidate the cover. You also have rights against the retailer that sold it to you. Under the Consumer Rights Act, a fault in the first six months is presumed to have been there when you bought it.

Not sure if it is covered?

Tell us the make and roughly when you bought it. If it is likely to be a guarantee job, we will say so and point you to the manufacturer. We're always happy to help.

Make by make

What the standard guarantee usually is, and what we see most on each make.

Hotpoint and Indesit

The biggest-selling family in the UK, so the one we see most. Hotpoint and Indesit share parts and error codes. The standard guarantee is one year, with longer cover on some models if you register. Machines sold between October 2014 and February 2018 may be affected by the door-lock recall, so check that before anything else. F05 (not draining) and F06 (door) are the common codes. Hotpoint error codes →

Beko and Blomberg

Good-value machines. Beko gives twelve months, with ten years on parts if you register; Blomberg gives three years. On models with a brushed motor, an E07 code is often worn carbon brushes, which is an inexpensive repair. Beko error codes →

Bosch, Siemens and Neff

Well built and well documented. Two years as standard, five if you register within 28 days, and ten years on the motor on most ranges. Bosch's terms say that an unauthorised repair can void the guarantee, so if yours is still covered, go to Bosch first. E18 (not pumping out) is the common code and is usually a blocked filter. Bosch, error codes →

Samsung

Two years as standard, and the motor has a long parts warranty of its own. The motor is brushless, so there are no brushes to wear. 4C and 5C are the fill and drain codes; the dC and dE door codes are often the latch, the hinge or the wiring rather than the lock itself. Samsung error codes →

LG

Two years as standard and ten years on the Direct Drive motor. Direct Drive means there is no belt and no brushes. OE (not draining) and UE (unbalanced load) are the everyday codes. LG error codes →

AEG, Zanussi and Electrolux

The guarantee varies by model, so check your paperwork. The codes come as E-numbers or as a count of beeps. E20, or two beeps, is not draining. AEG, error codes →

Hoover and Candy

The guarantee varies by model. E03 is not draining and E02 is not filling. Hoover error codes →

Haier

The guarantee varies by model. The codes run from Err1 to Err9, and Err2 (not draining) is the common one. Haier error codes →

Miele

Built to last and more expensive than most. Two years as standard, with paid extensions. We repair Miele machines at the same £75 labour as any other make. Miele error codes →

Whirlpool

The same family as Hotpoint and Indesit, and many parts are shared.

Bush, Logik, Essentials, Lamona and other own brands

We repair them. The guarantee is usually one year through the retailer. Parts can take longer to get, and on a cheaper machine a more expensive repair, such as a control board, motor or bearings, is more often not worth doing. We will tell you before you decide.

Recalls to check

  • Hotpoint and Indesit machines sold between October 2014 and February 2018 may be affected by the door-lock recall, where the lock can overheat. If yours was bought then, stop using it and check the model number with Whirlpool's recall checker or on 0800 316 1442. The repair is free.
  • Older notices cover Hotpoint and Indesit machines made between 2007 and 2009 (the drum), Haier HW-C models (the control panel) and the LG F12U1 and F14U1 (the chrome trim).
  • For any make, Electrical Safety First's recall checker and the GOV.UK product safety alerts list every current recall. Registering a new machine with the manufacturer is how you get told about the next one.
A recall repair is free from the manufacturer. If your machine is on a list, that is the first call to make.

Questions people ask

Do you repair built-in and integrated washing machines of every brand?

Yes. Built-in machines are £85 labour rather than £75 because the machine has to be removed from the kitchen unit. The make does not change the price.

Which washing machine brand is the most reliable?

We do not keep a league table. The common faults are much the same whatever the make, and how a machine is looked after makes more difference than the badge on the front.

Can you get parts for an older or own-brand machine?

Usually. Manufacturers have to keep spare parts available for at least ten years after a model stops being sold. Own-brand machines can take longer. We tell you the part price and when it will arrive before you commit to anything.

My machine is still under guarantee. Should I use you?

Probably not, and we will say so. A guarantee repair is usually free, and an independent repair can invalidate the cover. Contact the manufacturer first. If they cannot come quickly and you would rather pay than wait, give us a call.

Ring us with the make and model and we will tell you what we can do.

  1. 1

Ring or book online. A photo of any error code helps.

  2. 2

We tell you the likely fault and the price before anyone comes out.

  3. 3

We come the same or next working day, fix it and run a wash with you.
